Programs

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". Nelson Mandela
Pre-School/3 & 4 year olds (Cubs)

At this stage of child development, children work on listening and speaking skills, and we use a variety of interesting words to help expand their young minds and vocabulary.  Self-expression and creativity are highly encouraged! We engage in story-telling and children are allowed to give explanations that involve the use of sentences. We schedule rotating 30-minute segments to ensure everyone has the opportunity to explore our House Keeping area, where kids can work the cash register, cook meals, play dress up, shop for groceries or call the neighborhood cleaners with their "cell-phone"on the way home from work! The possibilities are endless in our House Keeping Center, as kids expand their creativity and imagination to transform themselves into kings, queens, doctors, lawyers, train conductors and more!

Students practice following simple one and two-step directions, learn patience and how to respond appropriately to questions from others, learn to be aware of various types of emotions using facial expressions and body language cues, and learn to translate numbers, letters, shapes, colors, animals and common words and phrases from English to American Sign Language (ASL) and English to Spanish.

Children engage in activities that require them to to count, sort, compare and refine their fine and gross motor skills and learn to recognize numbers, match letter sounds (phonics) with written letters, begin reading level 1 books, draw shapes, match animal sounds with written animal names, locate their names on attendance wall, learn days of the week, months of the year, and learn about bugs and insects!

Pre-Kindergarten/4 & 5 year olds (Lions)
At this stage of child development, students will have mastered the goals and tasks required to transition into a Lion and build on what they have learned as a Cub. They gain more independence, become more responsible, learn to regulate and be accountable for their own behaviors, establish and sustain relationships, work more independently and participate cooperatively with their peers and adults.

Children will develop a better knowledge of language comprehension and learn to express their wants, needs, thoughts, and ideas while using more complex sentence structures. Our Pre-K students will begin reading level 2 books, developing problem-solving skills, making better connections, and thinking symbolically. They will acquire phonemic awareness and are introduced to lots of rhyming words, synonyms/same and antonyms/opposites. These students learn how to re-tell stories more accurately by sequencing and learn to write their names.

They will be able to connect numerals to quantities, establish the difference between 'less' and 'more', compare and measure, and demonstrate the knowledge of patterns. Students will gain knowledge about the Earth's environment, use tools and technology to perform tasks, and explore geographic locations, as they learn about animals around the world and make correlations between habitats and their climates.
